Monthly Product Highlight: Polyurea 1-HD and Loading Ultra Durability Plus Alternatives

CFFS Polyurea-1 HD is a single component, 90% solids, VOC Compliant, Aliphatic Polyurea that was developed for high gloss UV-stable floor topcoats, chemical resistance, and corrosion control. This coating provides reliable performance in a wide range of temperatures and climate conditions. Polyurea-1 HD is 100% UV Stable and has excellent resistance to abrasion, and many of today's harshest chemicals. .

Smooth Surface Loading
Citadel typically recommends incorporating our Ultra Durability Plus additive with the Poly -1 HD to give the system added abrasion along with flow and leveling. By adding the UDP, this also diminishes the level of gloss and now the system has a satin finish. Some customers really want a high gloss finish and we have a solution that still achieves the abrasion resistance but allows for a high gloss finish. Over a solid smooth surface such as our Metallic System, Citadels typical UDP loading is 3lbs of UDP per gallon of liquid. This amount of loading will leave a satin finish. To achieve a high gloss finish, it will require 2 coats. With the first coat of HD, load the UDP as a standard mix ratio of 3lbs per gallon of liquid and roll out of a pan at a rate of 400-500sqft per gallon. Once the coating has cured to a tack free state, you can now roll out an additional coat of Poly 1-HD at a rate of 500sqft/gallon but only adding 1-2 Tablespoon of UDP per gallon of liquid. By adding just that small amount of UDP, it allows for the product to flow and level to leave an even and consistent looking floor with the desired high gloss finish.

Solid Color/Partial Chip
Over a solid color system or partial chip that has a rougher profile, we have tested and found that by adding 1-2 Tablespoons of UDP per gallon, it allows for the Poly 1-HD to more evenly flow and cure to a consistent finish. Plus, you get all the benefits of HD's properties and also the high gloss finish that makes the floor really stand out!

Tech Tip: Cold Weather Installs

Unlike competitor products, Citadel has a full line of products that allow you to continue to work throughout the cold season. Our products are able to cure at temps well below freezing, and with our adjustable cure rate technology, it allows you to adjust the speed of the product to get reliable cure times at virtually any temperature!

A few cold weather tips:
o Protect the worksite from elements by tarping or creating barriers.
o Keep product in a climate controlled area. Do not let products freeze.
o Cold Product will affect your typical spread rates. Both Surface Temp and ambient temp are contributing factors to loss of spread rates.
o Consider the use of bucket heaters to keep products warm prior to use.
o Protect the materials from sitting idle on a cold slab
o Remember, Cold Product = Longer cure times and reduction in spread rates!
